Maths Teacher Resources

Maths in surveying resources for students

Help your students experience the applications of maths in the real world with our complimentary maths in surveying resources for year 10 students. As your students prepare for VCE, HSC or QCE and start to think about potential career pathways, it’s important to provide them with experiences that help them apply their learning and get a feel for different jobs.

Our maths in surveying resources contain a range of practical activities where students use basic tools and apply mathematics principals to perform surveying tasks commonly done by surveyors. The materials are designed to run independent of a surveyor, and we’ve also supplied phone support to help you with any questions to help you be able to run them yourself. Contact numbers are included on resource kit that can be downloaded below. You can also email trysurveying@alifewithoutlimits.com.au for further assistance if needed.

Activities include:

  • A: Mapping a garden or perimeter of a building (area and surface area, trigonometry)
  • B: Using MiniCAD software (trigonometry)
  • C: Measuring heights using shadows (properties of geometrical figures)
  • D: Marking out the corners of a shed (volume, Pythagoras)
  • E: Marking a path through a minefield (trigonometry)
